Get rid of food to lose weight

Overeating is a problem for people who need to keep a healthy weight.

During overeating, the body absorbs excessive calories and nutrients like fats, sodium sugar and protein.

This may lead to not only overweight but also chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.

The good news is that scientists have developed a new weight loss method to help people get rid of food before the food is digested.

The method is called aspiration therapy and it is developed by researchers from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

The therapy has been approved by FDA.

In the therapy, researchers use an endoscope to place a small, discreet device into the stomach.

The device is a tube that is undetectable beneath a shirt or a one-piece bathing suit. That tube, like a port used to get drugs into the body, protrudes slightly from the skin.

Researchers said that it is like a feeding tube. For the device to work, a patient goes to a restroom 30 to 60 minutes after eating.

S/he connects the tube to an external apparatus and removes about one-third of the food eaten, preventing absorption of those calories.

To make it successful, the patient needs to eat more slowly, chew the food very well and drink a good amount of water.

In an experiment about the aspiration therapy, the patients performed it once or twice each day, after the largest meals they ate.

Two weeks later, the researchers found that the patients lost an average of 14% of their body weight.

This almost double the amount they seen with other nonsurgical therapies and similar to weight loss seen with some surgical therapies.

The research team thinks the therapy is quite successful. But they also mention that the big challenge for using it is eating habits.

Before the therapy, many patients tended to overeat. They ate quite fast and did not chew the food well. Some patients did not drink enough water.

But when they were in the therapy, they had to change their habits.

In addition, they must learn to eat smaller portion sizes and consume fewer calories.

The researchers said that eating differently is a big part of how the weight loss is achieved.

They also warn that this therapy is not for people who only need to lose a small amount of weight.

To see how much weight you need to lose, you need to check the body mass index (BMI).

A person with a BMI of higher than 25 is considered overweight, and those with BMIs over 30 are considered to have medically significant obesity.

The therapy, according to the researchers, is recommended for those with a BMI between 35 and 50.

Often people who are eligible for this therapy also have other health problems, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnea.

But these conditions do not determine whether a patient can do the therapy or not.

Finally, the researchers remind people who want to use the therapy that they need to check with their health insurance providers to see if the therapy cost is covered.
